Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

You don't have to travel all the way to the coast to spend time at the beach. Apex is home to Jordan Lake, a massive reservoir that has become a stay-cation favorite for local residents. Popular activities at the lake include swimming, picnicking, camping, boating, hiking, and wildlife watching. In the summertime, be sure to take your camera — you'll likely spot a bald eagle enjoying the sunshine.

The American Tobacco Trail

If you're craving an adventure close to home, spend time exploring Apex's network of greenway trails. The American Tobacco Trail, in particular, is popular with residents. This 22-mile trail begins in Apex off New Hill Olive Chapel Road, winds through towering pines and over gurgling creeks, and stops just a stone's throw from Downtown Durham.
